A new outdoor package has been developed for a line of high-performance Ka-band block upconverters (KABUCS) from Jersey Microwave. These outdoor units (ODUs) translate L-band signals from 950 to 2450 MHz to Ka-band frequencies from 24 to 31 GHz, in 1500-MHz band segments. The BUCs can be phase locked to an external 5- or 10-MHz frequency reference or an internal reference source, with automatic switchover to the internal source when the external reference source is removed.

The low-noise BUCs provide output power to 4 W and a variety of control interfaces, including Ethernet and RS-485/422 connections. They operate from 90 to 260 VAC and provide a 25-dB gain adjustment range to control output power. Also, they exceed the requirements of IESS 308/309 and MIL-STD-188-164A. In addition, multiband configurations are available operating in C-, X-, Ku-, and Ka-band frequencies.
