GaN MMIC Amps Power 2 To 20 GHz

July 25, 2013
Four amplifiers combine for different output-power levels from 2 to 20 GHz.

Four gallium-nitride (GaN) MMIC power amplifiers are suitable for a wide range of applications from 2 to 20 GHz. Model HMC1086F10 provides 25 W output power from 2 to 6 GHz and is supplied in a 10-lead, flange-mount package. It features 23-dB small-signal gain across its frequency range with +44 dBm saturated output power and +46 dBm output third-order-intercept (IP3) point. It draws 1100 mA from a +28-VDC supply. Model HMC1086 is the die version of the same amplifier, with 25-W output power from 2 to 6 GHz. Model HMC1087F10 is an extremely broadband amplifier, housed in a 10-lead flange-mount package and with 8 W output power from 2 to 20 GHz. It delivers 11-dB small-signal gain across that range, with +39 dBm saturated output power. It draws 850 mA current from a +28 VDC supply. Model HMC1086 is the die version of the same amplifier.
